President Commissioner of PT Sritex, Iwan Setiawan Lukminto, explained that currently the textile industry continues to experience a decline. He said that the current threat of decline in the textile industry cannot be separated from regulations in Indonesia which are still poor. In the Beyond The Limits discussion hosted by the President Director of Solopos Media Group, Arief Budisusilo, entitled Textile Boss Opens Voice About Tiktok Shop and the Illegal Import Phenomenon, Thursday (5/10/2023), Iwan also responded to the closure of Tiktok Shop some time ago.
"Starting last year, this textile has continued to decline, we informed the government of this problem, especially in the fields of trade, industry, the Ministry of Finance and Customs. "We informed them that there was an unstoppable decline in the textile industry, as it was in the field and there we informed them that there was a threat," he said.
Iwan said various factors are causing the current sluggishness of the textile industry due to the onslaught of imported goods entering Indonesia.
"The decline in utilization of textile producers has fallen below 50 percent, this is dangerous. "The cause was initially a pandemic, then there was thrifting plus massive imports but no regulatory umbrella," he said.
Iwan also said that currently the impact of the influx of imported goods has not only affected large-scale manufacturing industries but has threatened micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
"Attacks to the manufacturing industry have passed their phase, now they are attacking those at the bottom, namely MSMEs," he explained.
He added that the current geopolitical situation is also putting pressure on the local textile industry.
Iwan said that the large-scale influx of goods from China was because regulations in Indonesia were still minimal regarding imports.
"We have to look at the existing geopolitical situation, the world economy is under pressure, especially China, which used to export heavily to the United States, but now it can't. In the end, where did these things go? "Yes, we just spread it to countries with bad regulations like Indonesia, so we are just an overflow country," he explained.
