Business actors in the textile industry have high hopes for the management of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for the period 2021-2026. Secretary General of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Rizal Tanzil Rakhman wants the new Kadin to listen more and fight for the existence and growth of the textile and textile product (TPT) industry.
Moreover, TPT is a priority and leading industry sector in the country. "We want anyone elected by Kadin to be more aspirational towards sectoral associations," he told. Rizal's view says that one of the policies that the industry is waiting for is safeguards for garment products. According to him, the approval of various parties related to the safeguard has been completed and is just waiting for the regulation of the finance minister or PMK.
He hopes that the PMK regarding garment safeguards can be released soon, considering that the Covid-19 case has recently skyrocketed again. He is worried that the surge in Covid-19 cases will bring back the weakening of the economy because health will be prioritized in the near future.
Previously, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Filament Yarn and Fiber Producers Association (APSyFI) Redma Gita Wirawasta confirmed that the textile industry was still waiting for the release of a garment safeguard. In addition, entrepreneurs also expect the government to revise the existing fabric product safeguards.
According to Redma, the government needs to include Malaysia in the fabric safeguards because it is alleged that there is a transshipment from that country. "Malaysia's fabric production is not much, but there seems to be a transshipment because just one type of fabric can increase by 130 percent," said Redma.
