The recent significant spike in Covid-19 cases has the potential to disrupt the performance of an expansive industry. Chairman of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Jemmy Kartiwa said the labor-intensive textile and garment sector also felt the impact of the Covid-19 surge. Positive cases among workers also began to appear, although with mild symptoms.

“Actually, demand rose after Idul Fitri yesterday, but recently there will be pressure (shock) so that we estimate the trend will decrease. We are now thinking about health first, then business," he said, quoted from the Kompas.id page.

For this reason, he hopes, the vaccination program for workers can be further encouraged.

“We need to work hand in hand between business actors, across associations. It can no longer be said that vaccination is only a matter for the government or depends on who has the money. We have to look at the priority sectors and areas that really need it,” said Jemmy.

Apart from textiles, another sector that is also starting to feel the impact of the Covid-19 surge is the shoe industry.
