Indonesia and Brazil continue to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The trade value between the two countries has only reached US$ 3.2 billion, worth Rp 46.2 trillion. Meanwhile, the economic potential of the two countries reaches US$ 5 billion, equivalent to Rp 72.3 trillion.

One of the trade potentials between Indonesia and Brazil is for cotton commodities. The cotton trade between Indonesia and Brazil has continued to increase over the last 10 years.

Brazil is the world's fourth largest cotton producer and the world's second largest fiber exporter. Currently, the South American country supplies 23 percent of the global textile industry.

In the 2010/2011 period, Indonesia imported 97 thousand tons of cotton from Brazil. In the period August 2020 to May 2021, Indonesia's import volume reached 189 thousand tons, a growth of 94 percent.

Revenue generated from purchasing Brazilian cotton in Indonesia has increased by 80.5 percent in the last 10 years, from US$164 million in 2011 to current US$297 million in 2021.

To promote Brazilian cotton in Indonesia, the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (Abrapa) held the Cotton Brazil Harvest 2021 Roundtable, an online webinar event to intensify trade partnerships with cotton buyers in Indonesia.

The Cotton Brazil Harvest 2021 Roundtable is aimed at the business community, this event will provide a space for exchanging information among producers, manufacturers, agents and traders.

“The Cotton Brazil Harvest 2021 Roundtable event is an online business meeting. We will update statistical data on the development of the cotton harvest in Brazil, as well as provide information about the quality and technical aspects of the cotton we produce,” said Abrapa President Júlio Busato.
