The government decided to implement emergency PPKM on 3-20 July in Java and Bali islands. This is to reduce the number of Covid-19 transmissions.

Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Manpower of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bob Azzam, said the emergency PPKM policy did not have an impact on increasing layoffs (PHK). Employers support this policy in order to suppress the transmission of Covid-19. "I think this is a temporary policy of three weeks without layoffs," said Bob.

He asked the government to continue to allow essential sectors to operate, such as the logistics sector. This is to keep the economy going.

Then, there is a need for strict supervision regarding community mobility during emergency PPKM. This is to reduce the number of Covid-19 transmissions. "People please limit their mobility, but logistics must be supported so that it runs smoothly and is not disturbed," said Bob.

Meanwhile, according to the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal, emergency PPKM could result in massive layoffs like the Giant case. Especially for retail companies, logistics, hotels, transportation, food, textiles, electronic components, to automotive components.

KSPI asked the government in this case the Minister of Manpower, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, and the Minister of Industry to ensure that the implementation of an emergency PPKM does not cause workers to be laid off and then cut their salaries. "And what's more, there should not be an explosion of layoffs," said Said.

Contacted separately, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker), Anwar Sanusi asked companies not to terminate their employment (PHK) in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Especially during the implementation of emergency PPKM.

Anwar encouraged companies and workers to continue to create conducive employment conditions. "We certainly hope that we can continue to create conducive employment conditions by as much as possible the best two-party solutions can be taken through bipartite dialogue," said Anwar.
