The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to encourage the optimization of the potential and opportunities for the development of the halal industry in the country. This is because Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world with 272.2 million people, while overall, its position in the global sharia economy is in 4th position, or below Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates."In realizing a halal ecosystem, the Ministry of Industry has issued two related Regulations of the Minister of Industry. First, regarding the Halal Industrial Estate, then regarding the establishment of the Halal Industry Empowerment Center," said Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Dody Widodo in his official statement today.

Dody explained, to produce halal products, many aspects are of concern, such as raw materials, supporting technology, supporting facilities, and human resources (HR) of the industries involved. With the potential of the global sharia economy reaching US$ 2.02 trillion, Indonesia has the opportunity to develop the halal industry, especially in the food and beverage, fashion, pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors.

"This can be seen from the increasing demand for halal food products as well as the development of Muslim fashion trends (modest fashion) which must be utilized by the national Textile and Textile Product (TPT) Industry through various product innovations and optimization of functional textiles," explained Dody.

Meanwhile, in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, the development of halal products is also in line with efforts to substitute imported raw materials, because they can take advantage of Indonesia's unique biodiversity as a separate selling point in the eyes of global consumers.

To accelerate the development of the halal ecosystem in Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry together with related ministries or institutions, including the National Sharia Economic Committee (KNEKS), the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas are currently compiling a roadmap for the halal industry.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry is also increasingly proactive in supporting the empowerment of the national halal industry which is manifested in several main programs, including the development of human resources for the halal industry, development of the production process, facilitation of halal infrastructure development, as well as publications and promotions, especially those related to the national halal industry which is realized. in several main programs. The Ministry of Industry will also hold the Indonesia Halal Industry Award (IHIA) in 2021, the culmination of which will take place in December, as a manifestation of appreciation for the parties who play an active role in the development and empowerment of the halal industry in the country.

"This award will be given to various parties involved, for example those who produce halal innovations, IKMs who consistently carry out halal principles, and Halal Industrial Estates," said Dody.
