The growth of electricity consumption in the textile industry in West Java began to rise and even broke a record after 2 years in a row it was minus compared to before the pandemic. The growth of electricity consumption in the textile sector in January-March 2022 grew to 11 percent or 1.53 Terawatt Hours (TWh), compared to the same period last year. This increase is the highest compared to the same period in the previous two consecutive years, namely minus 4 percent or 1.50 TWh in 2020 and minus 8 percent in 2021. In the first quarter of 2021, the textile industry's electricity consumption reached its lowest point, only 1.38 TWh.

"Based on data from the West Java PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID), the performance of the garment and textile industry throughout the first quarter of 2022 was in the positive zone for the first time during the pandemic," said Manager of Priority Services for PLN UID West Java, Muhammad, Tuesday (19/4/2022). ).

This increase was due to increased production to meet consumer needs in welcoming Ramadan and Eid in 2022.

PLN also noted an increase in the use of electricity by several textile factories which switched their electricity source from their own generators to PLN electricity through the Captive Power incentive program.

"Through this Captive Power incentive program, some textile customers who previously used their own power plants have now switched to using PLN electricity," he explained.

For this transfer, PLN provides discounts or tariff incentives that are more competitive when compared to customers having to operate their power plants.

In West Java itself, the largest textile and textile product industry with a power of 200 kVA and above is in the working area of ​​the PLN Customer Service Implementation Unit (UP3) Majalaya with 248 customers with a total power of 332.65 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA).

The second rank is occupied by PLN UP3 Cimahi with 183 customers with a power of 281.34 MVA.

Meanwhile, the third largest textile industry is in PLN UP3 Bandung with 124 customers with a total power of 213.11 MVA.

In 2022, Ardian is optimistic that the electricity consumption of the textile and textile product industry in West Java will continue to grow in line with the growth of the textile industry itself and the better condition of the Indonesian economy.

Apart from textiles, several segments also experienced an increase in electricity consumption compared to the same quarter in 2021.

Among them are the social/public facilities/sports segment which increased by 23.02 percent; hospitality rose 23.07 percent; restaurants rose 13.82 percent; and tourist and entertainment places rose 26.01 percent
