This year ARTJOG carries the theme of awareness, namely Expanding Awareness. This theme is not only limited to people's critical awareness of the various problems that are currently happening, but also invites visitors to open their eyes that the art exhibition itself is a space for knowledge exchange that is carried out with full awareness. This big theme was also brought up from the beginning by As far as Eyes Sees, which was also brought back through its participation in ARTJOG 2022.

Installation of “Our Extinct Story”

The installation of "Our Extinction Story" on ARTJOG reminds visitors of the threat of human extinction

The exhibition in the form of an installation presents a miniature forest made from used patchwork, video footage from the Leuser Conservation Forum on endangered fauna, and a wall with text explaining the idea behind this exhibition. Interestingly, there is a one-way glass installed in this miniature forest room, which can only be seen by visitors who are outside the room.

At the top of the outer space, visitors will also see a glowing text which is 'Species Causing Extinction', with a visualization of humans passing by in the middle of the artificial forest. imagine

“Everyone will pass through this glass room, but some are aware that some are not. There are also those who take pictures there, which visitors keep seeing outside, right?” said Chitra.

This installation was designed in such a way as to remind ARTJOG visitors about the bad nature of humans, which is the cause of the extinction of other species. The Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, orangutan, and Sumatran body which are currently endangered are included in the conservation area of Gunung Leuser National Park in North Sumatra.

“This exhibition showcases the reality that is happening on Earth, our home. The earth can heal itself, feel itself, but in the last 50 years in a fast paced world, the population is increasing and industrialization is increasing. Earth is out of balance with itself again,” said Chitra Subyakto, Founder and Creative Director as far as the Eyes Can See.

“Not many people are really aware that humans are currently headed for extinction. Previous extinctions that occurred due to nature, including the fifth extinction that occurred due to meteors. But now it's because of us," he concluded.
