Imported used clothes are mushrooming on the market, even entering shopping centers or malls. In order to minimize the wider spread of imported clothing, the business community considers that there needs to be firm action from regulators and law enforcement. "Customs needs to study. I believe the Police and Customs are able to handle it," said Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Anne Patricia Sutanto, Tuesday (16/8/22).

He considered that this was the right moment to take action against the perpetrators of these illegal importers, especially after the Ministry of Trade took action last week, namely the burning of imported used clothes with a value of Rp. 8-9 billion.

In order to have a deterrent effect, one way that can be done is by revoking import permits from importers who violate.

"It's an import. Which company's permit is there. The police and BC should be able to do it. The important thing is that there is a will. It's forbidden to import used clothes. Yes, it must be revoked with clear evidence," said Anne.

The entry of imported used clothing is definitely illegal because its existence is prohibited through Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 40 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 18 of 2021 concerning Goods Prohibited from Exporting and Goods Prohibited from Importing.
